Today we are premiering “Music 2 Txt Boys 2” by Dylan Ewen from his upcoming EP, I’ve Made So Many Mistakes, set to release on Saturday, May 26.

Ewen combines indie, pop-punk, and pop-rock influences into this electronic solo project, and has been using drawing as another way to express himself and elaborate on the world listeners experience in his music. This single comes from a pretty fun backstory. When talking about the inspiration for it, Ewen said:

“There’s a Lana Del Rey song called “Music to Watch Boys To,” which is a play on an old song called “Music to Watch Girls By,” so I thought it would be cool to write a song called “Music 2 Txt Boys 2” which feels like an updated play on both of them. It also feels like a shrunk-down version of both those titles, which is appropriate because I feel like my music sounds like a mid-2000s pop-punk band like blink-182 if all the members shrunk down to one inch tall. The chorus lyrics are a reference to Rick Ross’s “Everyday I’m Hustlin” with an emo twist, and since my best friend loves guitarmonies I threw some My Chemical Romance-style shredding on the chorus. It’s sort of a mash-up of a bunch of references smashed into one, filtered through my own vibe.”
