Citysick’s new EP, Get Better, is out this Friday, December 1st, but we are streaming it in its entirety right now!
The Chico rock band was new to me this year, and I had only heard good things leading up to seeing them live in August. Seeing Citysick perform had me eagerly anticipating this release, and I can safely say this record surpassed my expectations. The vocals are emotion-filled, and the guitars are whirling, but keep things pushing forward. The pacing of these five tracks makes Get Better an ideal starting place for anyone just getting into the band; it’s a satisfying listen. Each song is sure to have a line that will get stuck in your head, and have you happy to return to this EP for another play.
Read what Citysick said about Get Better:
“Our second release Get Better is a collection of songs that we have been working on since March, recording in studios, apartments, and even office buildings in Northern and Southern California. We wanted to create something that was a little more fun to move to, while still maintaining the honest, matter-of-fact lyrical style that made our first release Thanks For Trying what it was. What resulted from the merging of these two ideas was a body of music that is far more uplifting than our initial release. It’s still emo-rock, but it doesn’t spend near as much time wallowing in self-pity or invoking feelings of “woe is me.” Each song speaks to a different form of moving forward, and improving upon negative situations that come up in life. Life is always going to have ups and downs, and for some of us, a lot more downs than ups, but the bad things that happen don’t have to control our lives entirely, and that is what this EP is all about. These songs show the direction in which Citysick will be heading in the future, and we, as a band, feel like this EP was a large step in maturing as songwriters. We are very pleased with how Get Better came out, and are more than happy to finally be sharing it with the world.”
