Let us know what you’ll be listening to this New Music Friday!
Thursday night found Walter Etc., a California indie-pop staple, dropping by Portland on tour in support of their brilliant album, Gloom Cruise. Walter Etc. was joined by locals Lee Corey Oswald, Riled, Hemingway and Young Elvis. I showed up to Blackwater Bar a little after 9pm which means that I unfortunately missed out on seeing Hemingway and Young Elvis, but from my short conversations with all the members, I’m sure there will be more than a handful of opportunities to run into them soon.
When I first clicked play on Looming’s newest release, I was ready to be unimpressed. I didn’t find the name of either the album or the artist to be particularly appealing, and I had never heard of them before, so my expectation was to listen a couple times and write a lukewarm review of the piece. However, I was immediately won over by Looming’s power-driven sound and enticing vocals.
Based out of Boston, Future Teens is comprised of four unique, quirky ‘post-grads’ who accurately depict the modern 20-something experience in their first full-length album, Hard Feelings.
